Pathways to Housing DC

Everyone deserves a place to call home but sadly not everyone has a place to lay their head at night. Homelessness is a challenge throughout our country and there is often a feeling of helplessness or what can I do? Well, there is a lot we can do and I have found a great organization that has a mission I can get behind. Pathways to Housing is a non-profit who's  mission is to end homelessness and  support recovery for people with complex mental challenges by housing people directly from the streets first. They have helped over 900+people find permanent housing since 2004 and have a 92% success rate in people staying permanently in their homes. There are so many ways to get involved with this critical program including volunteering your time, making donations, and becoming an ambassador. Every year, Pathways to Housing has an event where their clients speak and share their story from the street to their home and  the stories you hear will break your heart but give you hope too. I heard a man say he had not been in a permanent home in 20+ years and when he moved in his home he just went to his kitchen and turned the lights on and off, amazed that he had electricity. A simple thing we take for granted every day--being able to flip on a light switch.

I believe strongly in spreading the word about this organization so that more people can get actively involved. One way I give back is by sending a donation in my client's name at their one year anniversary. It's a way to support this amazing organization while also spreading the word to more people so they can support such a critical and worthy cause.

Ending Homelessness through Housing First

Stable, supportive housing is merely the first step towards reintegrating into their community, rebuilding family relationships, reconnecting with their faith fellowships, and experiencing an improvement in overall physical health and psychological wellbeing.
